Best time to visit GALVESTON, TEXAS
Galveston (50 miles south of Houston) is a major beach-travel attraction in the South Texas Gulf Coast. It's climate is balmy when compared to that of Houston or even to the climate of Corpus Christi and the subtropical weather near the Mexican border.
Galveston is an important cruising port but it also offers its own travel attractions: beaches, water parks, museums...
Galveston offers historical and cultural attractions and plenty of opportunities for eating and shopping, and is close to the famous Cruise Ship Terminal, from which cruise ships of Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and the Princess Cruise Lines take passengers to Mexico, the Caribbean and other travel destinations.
Schlitterbahn Galveston, a family oriented year-round water-park, is also a local a major attraction.
The Moody Gardens, that gave three central giant pyramids where you can find the world of the oceans (Aquarium Pyramid), of the rainforest (Rainforest Pyramid) and of science and cinema (Discovery Pyramid).
The Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum, at Pier 19, and the Seawolf Park are other popular attractions.
The southern end of the Galveston island offers open beach access and other outdoor opportunities.
BEST TIME oF THE YEAR TO VISIT GALVESTON
Galveston climate lies between the temperate and the subtropical. Summer temperatures are persistently around the 90ºF / 32ºC.
Winters tend to be mild but not good enough for swimming or for beach life; temperatures may drop to the 40ºF-50ºF / 4-10ºC for long periods.
The Spring and Fall months are excellent for travel and for lower accommodation costs.
WHEN NOT TO GO TO GALVESTON
Summer and the two-week Spring Break are the most popular periods. To avoid crowds or high hotel rates, do not go at these times.
Weekends tend also to be busy and crowded. Again, if you want inexpensive accommodation or low crowds do not choose them.
Winter temperatures in Galveston rarely drop below the 40ºF-50ºF (5º-10ºC) but they aren't the ideal for swimming and beach life. So, beach lovers should also avoid winter time.
