For music and nightlife, the 6th street (in downtown) and the University of Texas campus are the most popular options.
Austin's downtown and the University of Texas also offer the best cultural and historical attractions: the State Capitol, the Governor's Mansion, the Bat Colony, the University of Texas and its Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum.

BEST TIME TO VISIT AUSTIN
Austin is a year-round destination, but Spring and Fall, with their agreeable temperatures, are the best times to visit the city. Most festivals, concerts and music related events are held during the Spring, Summer and Fall months.
Summers are hot and long but humidity levels vary from day to day; violent (though brief) thunderstorms are common. In the Winter season you may face very low temperatures.

Austin Bergstrom International Airport is just a couple of miles out of downtown.
Most of the inexpensive hotels are out of downtown, near the Airport or North of Brackenridge Park, on Austin Highway.

The Hill Country, located in the heart of Texas, west of Austin, is an extremely beautiful rural region with plenty of streams and majestic oak and cedar trees.
The Texas Hill Country has a very relaxing environment with truly distinctive features.

New Braunfels or Fredericksburg are amongst the small beautiful cities of this region.
Cities such as Fredericksburg and New Braunfels are major attractors in the Hill Country.

Fredericksburg, in the very heart of the Hill Country, has a German architecture and offers places for shopping, historic buildings and museums such as the Pioneer Museum or the National Museum of the Pacific War.
Just sixty miles west of Austin, the Lyndon Johnson State and National Historical Park is also an interesting site to visit for those interested in historical events.
BEST TIME TO VISIT THE HILL COUNTRY
Spring and Fall, with their mild temperatures, are the best times to visit the Hill Country. In the spring the hills are covered with colorful wildflowers such as the Indian Paintbrush or the Bluebonnet, and Fall brings intense reds, oranges, greens and yellows to the landscape.
Summer - though a hot and humid season - is also a popular time. You can easily arrange interesting and agreeable water outdoor activities on the many rivers and local lakes.
WHEN NOT TO GO TO THE HILL COUNTRY
Winter presents very low temperatures and you may want to avoid it.
If you don't want to enjoy lake and river outdoor activities, summer may not be a good time either.
