WHAT TO VISIT IN SANDUSKY AND LAKE ERIE ISLANDS

Port Clinton (a nice resort town) and Sandusky are the main departure points to Lake Erie Islands.
Sandusky offers two main amusement facilities:
- the Cedar Point Amusement Park and Resort, with 68 rides, 4 kids’ areas, and lots of entertainment.
- the Great Wolf Lodge, Kalahari and Castaway Bay, a set of gigantic indoor water-parks mingled with lots of year-round entertainment opportunities.
The Erie Islands offers sandy beaches, bird-watching, fishing, hiking, biking, golf and, especially, partying, fun and relaxation.
BEST TIME TO VISIT SANDUSKY AND LAKE ERIE ISLANDS
Summer is the most popular season to visit Lake Erie Islands and Sandusky region, with accommodation and services rising to their highest levels.
Fall is also popular, and probably the best time to travel to Lake Erie Islands and Sandusky: temperatures and weather are fairly agreeable and occasionally quite warm (the Lake Erie keeps the islands warmer than inland), it's the harvest time for local wineries and big crowds are gone.
Take into account the weather pattern in Ohio: severe Winters, with occasional snowstorms, regular rainfalls and very low temperatures; early Springs are cloudy, chilly and rainy, though there are beautiful days in mid and late Spring.
WHEN NOT TO GO TO SANDUSKY AND LAKE ERIE ISLANDS
If your goal is family amusement in the Cedar Point Amusement Park and Resort, or in the Great Wolf Lodge, Kalahari and Castaway Bay indoor water-parks, then winter and off-peak periods are excellent bets, due to lower crowds and better accommodation rates.
July and August are always bad months if you want to get easy and low cost accommodation (a practically impossible task in Sandusky or in the popular period of the Erie Islands).

Accommodation in Sandusky and Lake Erie tend to be expensive (and scarce in the case of Lake Erie Islands). You should book your hotels well ahead in the most popular periods (summer, weekends, holidays, late spring and early and mid Fall).
