Winter (December-March) is the best time to travel to Fort Lauderdale, Port Raton and Palm Beach, and the most popular. Temperatures are high and agreeable, but not too high.
But winter has larger throngs and higher accommodation costs, and you may prefer transitional months such as April and May, or September to November. They are also excellent periods to visit Fort Lauderdale, Port Raton and Pal Beach Region. Spring and Autumn have very pleasant weather and hotel rates are much lower than during winter.
If you don't mind lots of humidity and daily afternoon rainfalls, the summer period is a suitable alternative: the rewards are, obviously, better hotel rates and smaller crowds.
Some additional notes:
- June to October is the hurricane period, but the authorities carefully track the storms and you will be noticed, if there is the need to evacuate.
- Afternoon summer's thunderstorms are very common in Fort Lauderdale, Port Raton and Pal Beach Region.
- It rains less during winter than in the summer, but showers tend to be short and cause minimum effects in vacations. See Miami Weather Map.
- Especially packed days, weeks and weekends: Presidents' Day weekend (February), Easter week, Memorial Day weekend (end of May), the Fourth of July, Labour Day weekend (September), Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's.
- Eventual winter cold snaps last only a few days.
