Best Time to Visit Florida

Located where «Florida begins», Jacksonville, a once rather industrial port in the mouth of St Johns River, is now a rather different reality, offering uncrowded beaches, world-class golf courses, some historical sites, and lots of nighlife and entertainment opportunities.

Best time to visit Jacksonville

Jacksonville's old town offers some interesting spots: the Florida Theater, the Museum of Science and History, the Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art, the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens... The Metropolitan Park and the nearby Jacksonville Jaguars home (the Alltel Stadium) also deserve an attentive look.

For a fifteen minutes overview of the old town, take the Skyway Monorail, which will drive you from the Convention Center to Hamming Park.

Jacksonville's beaches

Ponte Vedra - in the Southeast of Jacksonville - is a rather exclusive beach, surrounded by luxurious mansions. For less exclusive beaches and for surfing, the Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach - a little north of Ponte Vedra - are better places. Jacksonville Beach offers a water park and other amusement facilities. Neptune Beach offers an interesting gambling center.

Jacksonville has an all year around mild climate, with just some cold days in the winter period. It rains more in the summer period (December-April) but showers are normally short and rarely affect visitors vacations. The winter is the low travel season.

Summer season (May to September) involves big throngs and higher accommodation prices.

April-May and September-November are travel mid-periods with relatively low accommodation prices and agreeable climatic conditions.
