TOMBSTONE AND OLD WEST TOWNS IN SOUTHEAST ARIZONA

Best Time to Visit Arizona

Tombstone - the site of the historic gun battle at the OK Corral, immortalized by so many Hollywood movies - is the most famous wild west town. Partially recovered, Tombstone is a popular tourist attraction in South Arizona, but there are other wild west ghost towns in the Arizona southeast.

WHAT TO VISIT IN SOUTHEAST ARIZONA

Tombstone is located 68 miles southeast of Tucson and 20 miles south of I-22 on US-80, in the southeast corner of Arizona, a region of majestic wild landscapes and preserved old wild west towns

Tombstone OK Corral is the most popular attraction in Tombstone, but Bird Cage Theatre and Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park are two other obligatory sites.

Kartchner Caverns State Park and the city of Bisbee (a very well preserved Victorian city) are other main travel attractions in this region. For other attractions, located in the northern reagion, see Best time to visit Tucson).

BEST TIME TO VISIT TOMBSTONE AND THE ARIZONA SOUTHEAST

The best time to explore the Arizona Southeast is between March and May, or during mid and late Fall.

A particularly good time for visiting Tombstone is late October, during the Helldorado Days event. Besides the usual good weather, there is plenty of animation in the Helldorado Days, with people and actors portraying gunfights and stagecoach robberies.

WHEN NOT TO GO TO TOMBSTONE, ARIZONA

Summer is a very hot season. Avoid the Summer and its extremely high temperatures

HOTELS AND FLIGHTS TO TOMBSTONE, ARIZONA

Tombstone offers scarce accommodation, and it may be preferable to use Tucson as a base for tours involving Tombstone and the Arizona south (remember that hotel rates are higher in winter and spring, when demand decreases and the hot weather gives ends).
