Money Magazine has named Door County one of the top ten vacation destinations in North America, and each year around two million visitors visit this peninsula.
With 300 miles of largely pristine and often excellent shoreline, Door County and its islands offer plenty of water-based recreation: beach life, sailing, cruising, fishing, boat rentals, charters, and are undoubtedly a top travel destination in Wisconsin.

WHAT TO VISIT IN DOOR COUNTY
State and county parks offer excellent hiking, biking and sightseeing opportunities. Golf amidst magnificent landscape is also a major attraction. Hundreds of galleries, art events and theatre complete the travel set of Door County.
Washington Island is the largest of Door County's islands and lies northeast of the peninsula, beyond the straits of Death's Door. Ferries from the mainland, make the crossing of Death's Door amidst magnificent views.
Washington Island offers museums, marinas, shops, galleries and even golf. But the main attraction is water-based recreation and bicycling amongst its beautiful and pastoral landscape.

BEST TIME TO VISIT DOOR COUNTY
Summer is the most popular travel season in Door County, with accommodation attaining its highest costs. But Autumn or late Spring - with their agreeable days and warm temperatures - are excellent and also popular alternatives.
Door County's winters are severe, with snowstorms and intense rainfalls. Snowstorms and ice storms are current in December, January and February. Unless you want to enjoy winter sports avoid winter (or even early spring or late autumn).
WHEN NOT TO GO TO GREEN BAY AND DOOR COUNTY
You may want to avoid the winter months, when temperatures attain very low levels, and snowstorms strike Door County and Wisconsin.
If you want to bet in low accommodation rates, then July and August aren't the better months to visit the region.

HOTELS AND FLIGHTS TO DOOR COUNTY
Accommodation is reasonable in Door County, but it turns scarce and over priced in July and August. Late Spring and early and mid Fall offer the best combination of weather and accommodation prices.
Sturgeon Bay, the main Door County town, has the Cherryland Airport Sturgeon Bay Airport (GFIA), but you may want to consider other major airports, namely the Green Bay airport (Austin Straubel International Airport) or Milwaukee airport (General Mitchell International Airport (MKE)).
