West Virginia is more and more visited by skiiers and mountain bikers. The Allegheny Mountains (part of the Monongahela National Forest), with its high peaks and dark forests, are a top outdoor destination.

West Virginia most popular destination - Harpers Ferry, an eighteenth-century restored town - stands at the border with Maryland, just a couple of hours from Washington or Baltimore.

BEST TIME T
O VISIT AND TRAVEL TO WEST VIRGINIA

West
Virginia summer is hot and normally humid, while winter and early spring are often very cold.

It's an instable weather, with moderate precipitation all over the year and moderate or high snowfalls from mid-November to March.

As expected, West Virginia's valleys have less colder winters than higher sites. In the central parts of West Virginia and in the more mountainous areas, winters are colder and snowfalls attain higher levels.

Northern Virginia's weather is very similar to that of Washington. See Best time to visit Washington.

If we only consider the weather issue in the whole, then the best time to visit West Virginia is undoubtedly mid and late spring - May, June – or late-summer and autumn (fall's foliage rivals in West Virginia's mountains rivals that of New England).

WHEN NOT TO GO TO WEST VIRGINIA

Humidity and high temperatures may turn July and August very uncomfortable months in many places of West Virginia.

Unless you want to enjoy outdoor winter sports, winter is a period you should want to avoid.

For details about West Virginia weather, see table below. For Northern Virginia's weather, and considering the similitude with the Washington's one, see Best time to visit Washington.
