Best Time to Visit Texas

The south Texas coast involves a 100-mile strip with excellent (though windy) beach resorts. Galveston (near Houston), Corpus Christy and Padre Island Seashore are the main travel references in this coast. 

Sun, beach-life, outdoors activities and fishing are the great attractions of South Texas. Between the many outdoor activities we may mention golf, surfing, bird watching, dolphin watching or biking.

WHAT TO VISIT IN SOUTH TEXAS

Galveston and Houston (around 50 miles south Galveston) are main  references in the more eastern part of the South Texas coast. Corpus Christi, Padre Island and Brownsville are the south-western main references.

BEST TIME TO VISIT SOUTH TEXAS

The south Texas weather is mainly subtropical in summer, with temperatures persistently around the 90ºF / 32ºC.

Winters tend to be mild (though temperatures may drop to the 40ºF-50ºF / 4-10ºC in many days). The south Texas coast is a favourite winter refuge for many people, but South Texas most popular (and crowded) season is undoubtedly Summer.

Spring and Fall are also excellent months for a visit. The weather and temperatures are excellent (though the sea temperatures aren’t as good as the Summer ones). Fall is an excellent period for those betting in fishing and in low hotel rates.


WHEN NOT TO GO TO SOUTH TEXAS

Summer is a busy season in South Texas (and also in the Spring Break two weeks period, when hundreds of thousands of college students come to south) with high hotel prices. If you want to avoid crowds or high accommodation rates, avoid Summer and the Spring Break.

Winter brings many people from northern states (golf, surf, bird watching and fishing are popular winter activities). Nevertheless, if you want to fully enjoy the Texan sea and beach life, avoid winter. Air temperatures rarely drop below the 40ºF-50ºF (5º-10ºC) but they aren't exactly the ideal for swimming and beach life.

There are plenty of hotels, in all ranges, in Galveston, Corpus Christi, Padre Island and other South Texas travel resorts.

Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Houston Hobby Airport and Corpus Christi International Airport are the main airports in the region.
