WHAT TO VISIT IN GALVESTON
Galveston downtown offers historical and cultural attractions and plenty of opportunities for eating and shopping, and is close to the famous Cruise Ship Terminal (from which cruise ships of Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Princess Cruise Lines take passengers to Mexico, the Caribbean and other travel destinations).
Schlitterbahn Galveston, a family oriented year-round water-park, is also a local a major attraction.
The Moody Gardens, centred in three giant pyramids where you can find the world of the oceans (Aquarium Pyramid), of the rainforest (Rainforest Pyramid) and of science and cinema (Discovery Pyramid).
The Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum, at Pier 19, and the Seawolf Park are other popular attractions.
The southern end of the Galveston island offers open beach access and other outdoor opportunities.
BEST TIME TO VISIT GALVESTON
Galveston weather is something between the temperate and the subtropical. Summer temperatures are persistently around the 90ºF / 32ºC.
Winters tend to be mild, but not good enough to swimming and to full beach life (temperatures may drop to the 40ºF-50ºF / 4-10ºC).
Spring and Fall are excellent periods for visits and for lower accommodation rates.
WHEN NOT TO GO TO GALVESTON, TEXAS
Summer and the Spring Break two weeks are the most popular periods involving Galveston. If you want to avoid crowds or high hotel rates, avoid these periods.
Weekends tend also to be busy and crowded. So, avoid them also, if you want inexpensive accommodation or low crowds.
Winter temperatures in Galveston rarely drop below the 40ºF-50ºF (5º-10ºC) but they aren't exactly the ideal for swimming and beach life. So, if you intend to enjoy beach life, avoid also winter.
