Most of the more opulent and remarkable Newport's mansions stand on Bellevue Avenue and around.
Downtown is also agreeable, as the shoreline and - most of all - Newport's beaches.
BEST TIME TO VISIT NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND
Rhode Island-Newport weather is rather changeable, with precipitation all over the year, even in summer. Summer may also bring very brief heat waves for some days.
Newport has very cool weather in winter and even in the early spring. It snows and rains slightly more in Newport than in New York; the average temperatures are also lower in Newport.
Late-spring, late-summer and early-fall are excellent months for visiting Newport.
Since Fall's foliage is particularly popular and many weekenders demand New England in that period, you may want to avoid Autumn's weekends.
WHEN NOT TO GO TO NEWPORT
You may want to avoid the winter months in Newport, when temperatures may attain very low levels. Take also into account that July and August may be uncomfortable due to humidity and high temperatures.
