WHAT TO VISIT IN WESTERN MARYLAND
Deep Creek Lake region, a dozen miles from interstate 68, in western Maryland Mountains, offers a wide variety of outdoor activities. Skiing is a popular sport in Winter, while water-sports and fishing (and also hiking or hunting...) are popular recreational activities from Spring through Fall. Cumberland is the local major city.
Frederick, at the junction of I-70 and I-270, an hour drive north-west of Baltimore, is an excellent base to visit some historic sites as West Virginia's Harpers Ferry or civil war battlefield Antietam (Frederick also offer its own historic museums as the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, the Barbara Frichie House or the Schifferstadt House).
BEST TIME TO VISIT NORTH-WESTERN MARYLAND
Northern and Western Maryland's Summer oscilates between mild and hot. There are very hot and humid days in summer, but most of the days are mild. July is the warmest month, and also the rainy month along with August.
In winter the weather tends to be harsh and disagreeable in the western mountains. January is the coldest month.
Mid and late Spring have many mild days, as well as Fall. These mild periods involve around 130 days in Garrett County. Summer is popular among water-sports enthusiasts in Deep Greek Lake.
Snow is common in the northwest regions of Maryland, close to Pennsylvania border (Garret County): the Deep Greek Lake region is very popular among winter sports lovers.
WHEN NOT TO GO TO WESTERN MARYLAND
To avoid the risk of disagreeable weather conditions, avoid the most extreme weather periods: the hot and humid July-August period and the December-February cold period.
Anyway, it all depends on your interests: water-sports enthusiasts will love Deep Greek Lake region in Summer. And winter sports lovers will have good conditions for skiing in winter most severe period.

Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI), ten miles south of downtown Baltimore and 25 miles northeast of Washington, is the great air hub to western Maryland.
Accommodation is largely centered in the main local towns: Frederick and Cumberland.
