Technically Hollywood is a district of Los Angeles. But Hollywood will always be more than that. It will always cause some mystical appeal in our minds. Top film companies has long gone to other places, but Hollywood still maintain many old palaces, studios and symbols of American movies.

WHAT TO VISIT IN HOLLYWOOD

Central Hollywood has many famous hotels (Hollywood Roosevelt...), museums (Hollywood Entertainment Museum, Hollywood History Museum...), old studios (Paramount Studios...), historical theatres (the Chinese Theatre, the Egyptian Theatre, the Hollywood Highland Theatre or the Kodak Theatre, site of the Academy Awards) and even a cemetery where you may find the mausoleums of many celebrated stars (the Hollywood Forever Cemetery).

Once most film studios have long moved out of Hollywood, if you want to visit them, then consider a trip to Burbank district. Here you can tour studios as NBC, Universal Studios, and others.

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL TO HOLLYWOOD / LOS ANGELES

Any time is good to visit Hollywood, but the Summer is special. July through early October is the most popular period to visit Los Angeles and Hollywood. Outdoor living (concerts, music, eating, biking...) and beach life are mainly centred in these rainless summer months.

And yet Los Angeles (and Hollywood) is often affected by urban smog - , a combination of fog and pollution - in the period between June and October.

If it is Hollywood, or mainly Hollywood, that you want to visit in Los Angeles, than winter months are also good options: winter rainfalls are usually brief and rarely damage significantly travelers vacations.

WHEN NOT TO GO TO HOLLYWOOD

If you hate smog then avoid the period between June and October. If you want to escape to big crowds and get lower prices in accommodation and other services, then do not choose the summer. March, April and May, or the period between September and November are better periods, in that case.

If you want less packed periods, avoid also the major holidays. Thanksgiving is a specially packed period in Hollywood, with much higher accommodation prices.

Other especially packed days, weeks and weekends: Thanksgiving and in Presidents' Day weekend (February), Easter week, Memorial Day weekend (end of May), the Fourth of July, Labour Day weekend (September), Christmas, New Year's, and other holidays .

HOTELS AND FLIGHTS TO HOLLYWOOD AND LOS ANGELES

Hollywood is a district where you will easily find accommodation - though some streets are rather insecure at night and hotels are mainly budget ones...

Other good places to look for accommodation in Los Angeles is downtown, and Santa Monica, Venice and Malibu. These last places are very good options: they are near LAX airport, they are well served by public transports connecting them to other Los Angeles districts, they are fresher and less subject to summer smog and they allow full security and plenty of outdoor activities and beach life.
